Thermal Expansion Test Device / Testing Apparatus

1. Overview

The test device meets the GB/T2951.5 test standard and is used in conjunction with a high temperature oven. The sample was hung on an extension device, the sample was suspended in a high temperature oven, and the lower clamp was weighted. After 15 minutes, the distance between the marks was measured and the elongation was calculated.

2. Main reference

3. Sample preparation

Cut out two insulation samples and sheath samples from each sample to be tested, and prepare the samples according to the test method specified in Chapter 9 of GB/T2951.1-1997 and measure the cross-sectional area.

The dumbbell test piece shall be taken from the inner layer of the insulation and sheath after removing all ridges and/or semiconductive layers.

The thickness of the test piece should be not less than 0.8 mm and not more than 2.0 mm. If a test piece of 0.8 mm thickness cannot be prepared, the minimum thickness is allowed to be 0.6 mm.

4. Test equipment

(1) The test shall be carried out in a high temperature oven as specified in Article 8.1 of GB/T2951.2-1997. The test temperature shall be in accordance with the relevant materials in the relevant cable product standards.

(2) In the high temperature oven, each test piece should be suspended from the upper clamp, clamped with the lower clamp, and weighted on the lower clamp.

Note: When fixing the tubular test piece with the clamp, the test piece should not be tightly closed at both ends. It can be realized by any appropriate method. For example, a small metal needle tube is inserted into one end of the test piece, and its size is slightly smaller than the inner diameter of the test piece.

5. Use of steps

(1) Before the test, place the weight under the lower clamp and lock it with a nut. The sample line of the specified length is then clamped by the upper and lower chucks and suspended in the air (as shown in the figure above). Observe the distance between the upper and lower chucks, read the data on the measuring ruler, and record it. The device is then placed in a prescribed high temperature oven.

(2) After the device is heated in a high temperature oven for 15 minutes, take out the device to measure the distance between the marking lines and calculate the elongation (Note: it should be measured within 30s after opening the door). The temperature of the high temperature oven is in accordance with the relevant cable product standard. Provisions for related materials.

(3) Then remove the tension from the test piece (cut the sample at the clamp) and allow the test piece to recover at the specified temperature for 5 min. The test piece was then removed from the high temperature oven, slowly cooled to room temperature, and the distance between the marking lines was measured again.

6. Test results evaluation

(1) After the load is 15min at the specified temperature, the intermediate value of the elongation shall not be greater than the relevant provisions of the cable product standard.

(2) The middle value of the increase in the distance between the marking lines after the test piece is taken out from the high temperature oven. The percentage of the distance before the test piece is placed in the high temperature oven should not exceed the standard of the relevant cable product standard.
